What is Spirometry Test?

Spirometry is a breathing test that can be done in the doctor’s office to test your respiratory condition to see if you have asthma or chronic obstructive airways disease (COPD). COPD is also known as Chronic bronchitis. Spirometry can also monitor the progression of this disease.

If you have a productive cough for more than 3 months of the year. You need to get tested especially if you are a smoker or an ex-smoker.

When is a Spirometry Test Required?

A Spirometry Test is required if you are experiencing any of the following:

  • If you have a dry cough, wheezing or shortness of breath that gets worse in the morning and at night.
  • If your dry cough, wheezing and shortness of breath becomes worse by exercise, you may have asthma.
